The roads in Costa Rica are narrow and dangerous but the Arias administration has made upgrading and improving the road infrastructure a top priority of the government. A recent loan from the inter-america bank of nearly one billion dollars will greatly improve the safety and efficiency of the transportation networks. Already in the last year fast stretches of important highway have been completely covered with thick smooth asphalt, turning what used to be two hour bumpy rides into 20 minute jet trips.

Most of the great forests in Costa Rica are protected as sanctuaries and national parks. Turtle nesting habitats and water resources are protected with laws. Schools teach resource awareness and the country is mostly free of the litter which plagues other developing nations. Education is high priority and this well educated population works in high tech industries in the central valley including a chip assembly plant for Intel and many service centers for major USA corporations. Amazon just announced plans to open a call center in San Jose to support it's online sales operations.
