Few lakes on planet earth compare to this nearly untouched fresh water sanctuary. Lake Arenal has an impressive collection of foreigner's living around the shores and high on the mountains overlooking volcanos, rivers, forests and lakes. Numerous developments offer gated community living as well as large farms are available for purchase.

We have at least one five star restaurant, The Gingerbread, just outside of Nuevo Arenal. And we have at least a dozen very good restaurants that are quite inexpensive, for instance The Lava Java Cafe with free wireless internet for customers and internet-cafe for a small fee. I can think of four great restaurants for pizza, as Ticos love pizza and we expats do too!

We have supermarkets that bring in fresh produce on nearly a daily basis. Amazingly fresh bean sprouts and fresh extracted coconut juice are now regulars on our supermarket shelves. With the increase of Americans, Canadians and Europeans living full time in Arenal, the supermarkets are becoming much better at meeting our needs.

Water sports are enjoyed by many, including boating, fishing, water skiing, wake boarding and of course wind surfing, for which Lake Arenal is world famous. Also you can rent a kayak or have guided fishing tour or just go for a swim. Arenal lake has something for everyone.

While most of the beach communities are over-run with out of control growth, suffer from poor infrastructure and a serious lack of water, the Lake Arenal area has abundant water, fresh air, good utilities and telecommunications and best of all you don't need air-conditioning to sleep at night!

We have nearly a dozen tennis courts between Tilaran and Nuevo Arenal so it's easy to find friends for an afternoon's game.
